Video-Contest ESPRESSiOn

In occasion of the Incontro Culturale Erasmus 2014 (ICE), ESN Italia is launching a video contest called "ESPRESSiOn - Italy in 30 seconds".

The Italian language differs not only from actual spoken words but also for its typical gestures and body language that come along with its many expressions; such gestures are an integral part of communication for Italians, becoming habits that are very difficult to part with. For those who come to Italy: don't think that you've learnt the language unless you've also mastered this unique way of communicating that is so typically Italian.

The aim of the contest is to promote Italian culture, to test international students and push them to learn as much as possible about the many different Italian gestures and expressions, by going beyond the stereotypes that can be usually found in movies. Therefore they have to look around, study and explore the environment that surrounds them, capturing  in the video images, expressions and everything that characterizes an Italian by recreating and re-elaborating it in the most genuine way possible.

The subject of the video will have to be you, or another international student, while you demonstrate your skills and knowledge of typical Italian expression and gestures. Figures of speech, proverbs, expressions in the regional dialect, combined with the gestures that characterize them... these are all elements that you can use in your video.

CONTEST RULES

ART. 1 - Participants

Participation in the contest is reserved to international students that are studying in Italy through an international exchange program/full degree during the academic year 2014-2015, and  have a valid ESN Card issued by an ESN section that is part of ESN Italy.

ART. 2 - Requirements

To join the contest you have to:

  • Submit a video, of a duration of not more than 30 seconds to be sent to contest@esn.it. 

  • Fill the participation form here, completed in all its parts, under penalty of exclusion from the competition.

The video can be recorded on any device ( photo camera, cellphone, manual/automatic analogic photo camera, videocamera and etc.) 

Each participant can submit only one video.

ART. 3 - How to send

Videos can be sent starting from the 24th of October 2014 until 23.59 of the 4th of November 2014 to contest@esn.it. Videos sent after this deadline will not be considered for the contest but can still enter the gallery. The participation form must also be filled within the deadline.

Files should be named in the following format firstname_lastname and the name of the ESN section where you are registered. (ex. john_doe_assisi.mp4)

Videos should not contain profanity or blasphemy. ESN Italy reserves the right to preview the videos to check that they are appropriate for all audiences.

ART. 4 - Authorization for the use of the materials

Participation in the contest is free. The author is personally responsible for the form in object of the works submitted and authorizes the publications for non profit purposes.

ART. 5 - Uploading and Voting

Videos sent to contest@esn.it , will be uploaded in order of arrival (first come first served) on the Youtube channel of ESN Italy. Videos will be uploaded in a specific playlist, from where users can express their preferences with a “like” until 23.59 of the 11th of November 2014. The video may take up to 24 hours to be uploaded from the moment it is received. 

ART. 6 - Prizes

The winners, selected by the jury, will be announced during the opening ceremony that will take place at ICE 2014.

The three participants with the highest views will all be awarded an ESN Italy Hoodie*.

The prizes are:

  • First place: a free ticket for Evento Nazionale 2015;
  • Second place: an a/r train ticket with Italo Ntv. from any starting point to any destination on the serviced rail stations;
  • Third place: a basket of typical food products;

ART. 7 - Terms and conditions

The winners will be decreed by statistics on the website, the nomination will be unappealable and the participation in the contest entails the integral acceptance of the rules of this contest.

* ESN Hoodies are not currently available in all sizes. If your size is not available, you will receive an ESN Italy Tshirt with the same design.
